Conceived by Prof. Dr. Hugo Fortes and organized by Imaginatur Research Group since 2011, the event has played a pioneering role in the discussion of the relationship between Art and Nature in Brazil and has already brought together dozens of artists, curators and researchers from several countries.

In its fourth edition, which will be held from April 25 to 30, 2025, the Conference will gather researchers and artists from several international universities (Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln - Germany, Hochschule Hannover - Germany, East Stroudsburg University - United States, University of Porto - Portugal, and Universidad Nacional de La Plata - Argentina) , as well as many Brazilian universities (USP, UFRGS, UFBA, UnB, UFES, UFU, UFSC).

In addition to lectures, the Conference includes artistic performances, a video showcase and the exhibition Húmus, curated by Ana Carolina Ralston, Hugo Fortes and Sandra Rey. The exhibition will open on April 25 at 6:00 p.m. at EdA - Espaço das Artes ECA - USP and will continue until May 16. The lectures, performances and video screening will take place on April 25, 28, 29 and 30 at the Istvan Jancsó Auditorium of the Biblioteca Brasiliana USP. On April 26 (Saturday) and 27 (Sunday), cultural activities will take place outside USP.

In view of the current threats to global ecosystems caused by climate change, species extinction, technological modification of nature and the unbridled exploitation of natural resources, it is necessary to think responsibly about human actions towards the environment.

Art, due to its reflective and innovative nature, is the ideal field for such reflections. Looking at and discussing nature, promoting dialogues between art and science seeking new alternatives for sustainable development is the primary objective of organizing the IV International Seminar Art and Nature.
